Omnibus Surveys

What do you need to know?

What is an omnibus survey?
An omnibus (multi-client) survey is a poll which reflects the thoughts and habits of a particular population. It allows a range of clients to ask one or more questions, rather than having to sponsor an entire survey on their own. (Omnibus means "widely comprehensive", or "of miscellaneous contents".) For reasons of affordability and time, most omnibus surveys are carried out by phone or internet.

Why are they useful?
Omnibus surveys are an objective, accurate and cost-effective way of finding out what the market thinks about you, your products, and your customer service. That includes both your customers - and perhaps more importantly, the ones who should be! They are also a great way to benchmark the success of your marketing, by testing how awareness (and perception) of your brand message changes over time.

How many people do you need to survey to represent the views of a population?
Surprisingly few. Australia's largest omnibus pollsters survey 1,200-1,400 randomly selected adults nationally: that reflects with a high degree of statistical accuracy the thoughts of the entire Australian population. For a population the size of Coffs Harbour (approximately 67,000), we interview 400 people selected at random. This should reflect the views of the entire adult population of this region to within approximately 5% at the 95 per cent confidence level.

So who do we interview?
Jetty Research intends to conduct a range of different omnibus surveys covering different populations and regions: examples might include the more general "all consumers" or "all businesses", down to more specific target markets such as "mothers with school-age children", "tradesmen", "babyboomers" or "men 21-39". To ensure surveys are useful to local businesses, most are region-specific. Check out our website, www.jettyresearch.com.au, for a list of forthcoming surveys - or suggest your own!

How much does it cost?
Probably less than you think. Depending on the complexity and number of of questions, and whether you want to survey businesses or consumers, cost per question varies from $300 to $450 (ex-GST). To avoid bombarding respondents with 20 different questions from 20 customers, there is a two-question minimum per client.

What do you get back at the end?
Within two weeks of the survey being completed you will receive a full report with the answers to your questions. Depending on your needs, we can also filter these for you by cross-correlating responses against various respondent categories - e.g. age, gender, or location. The important thing, however, is that you will have a statistically accurate picture of what an entire population thinks about your brand, your products and service: data that would otherwise cost thousands of dollars.

How do you get involved?
If you are interested in finding out more about your brands and your customers, fill in the no-obligation form below. Alternately you can phone or email us for an application form. Either way, we will then contact you within 24 hours with an exact quote, and advice (if necessary) on refining your questions.
